2004-08-29 - 4:12 p.m. Letter of complaint I would like to file a complaint against the attitude of certain bus drivers of SMRT buses. I was at a bus stop along Upper Thomson Road, towards Ang Mo Kio Central, waiting for 169 on Friday the 27 of August. I had been waiting for 20 minutes for the bus when it came at about 11.45am. Preceeding the 169 bus was 167 and 980. With two buses in front of 169, I approached the berth and waited for 169 to drive in. Since the bus berth was not that big, 167 and 980 had already occupied all the space, and 169 was directly behind them waiting in line before entering the berth. However, without a second thought, the driver simply pulled away and drove off from the bus stop, leaving me and another waiting commuter absolutely dumbfounded. This type of assumption made by the bus driver caused me to be late for my appointment by half an hour. Is this the message that SMRT hope to portray to their commuters that their drivers are irresponsible? The frequency of buses is not often, on good days, one bus every 15 minutes, on bad days one bus every 20 to 30 minutes. On many occasions, two of the same buses come at the same time, leaving the commuter to wait for 30 to 45 minutes for the next bus. I feel that if this is going to continue to happen, bus drivers should keep a look out for commuters at every bus stop and not just assume that there will be no commuters at the bus stop. I have heard that SMRT bus services always take commuter comfort and service as top priorities. But sad to say these few incidents are leading to the depreciation of my impression of SMRT bus services. What stands out to me is that the drivers were not train to show consideration, care and concern towards the commuters. The license plate number of the bus could not be taken down as it was driving off too fast from the bus stop. I would also like to make a note that this is not the first time something like this has happened to me, thus I believe that my frustration is understandable and not unreasonable. I sincerely hope that this incident does not repeat itself again in future and I would like to receive news of what SMRT plans to do about this lack of service provided by their drivers. I believe that I would be given a satisfactory explanation on the whole matter and thus restoring my confidence in SMRT bus services. Thank you for your time. Written by me, editied by Andrew and my mumz.. lol! Submitted to: http://www.smrtbuses.com.sg/comment.asp Hope it gets through...
